China Blasts G7 Over “Erroneous Remarks” of Hong Kong Arrest

(MENAFN) The Chinese Embassy in Britain has issued a sharp rebuke to the Group of Seven (G7), denouncing what it called “erroneous remarks” concerning recent police actions in Hong Kong.

Responding to the G7’s statement on Friday about arrest warrants issued by Hong Kong authorities for 19 individuals accused of anti-China activities, a spokesperson for the embassy said the comments amounted to blatant interference.

"The irresponsible remarks made by a small group of countries, including the United Kingdom (UK), regarding the law enforcement actions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) police constitute a gross interference in China's internal affairs and the rule of law in the Hong Kong SAR. We strongly condemn such remarks," the spokesperson said in a statement released Saturday.

The remarks come after Hong Kong police announced on July 25 that they were seeking 19 pro-democracy activists living abroad, accusing them of endangering national security.

Reaffirming Beijing’s position, the spokesperson added: "We firmly support the Hong Kong SAR government in performing its duties in accordance with the law, and firmly support the Hong Kong police in taking law enforcement actions in accordance with the law."

The embassy criticized the G7 for what it described as blatant hypocrisy, accusing member nations of interfering in Hong Kong's legal affairs. "The collusion of these countries to meddle in the rule of law in Hong Kong only further exposes their double standards and hypocrisy on issues of human rights and the rule of law," the spokesperson said, asserting that such actions would only reinforce the Hong Kong SAR government's determination to govern strictly by law and pursue criminal accountability.

The statement concluded with a direct warning: "We once again urge the relevant countries to stop fabricating excuses for shielding criminals and to cease interfering in China's internal affairs."
