UN specialists advice all states to stop Israel’s 'endless war on humanity' in Gaza
In a statement, the experts urged Israel to immediately allow unrestricted access to Gaza for impartial humanitarian groups, including the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
They highlighted that over 500,000 people—about a quarter of Gaza’s population—face famine, with the remainder suffering from emergency-level hunger. All 320,000 children under five are at risk of severe malnutrition, which could cause long-term physical and mental health issues.
The experts condemned the use of starvation as a brutal weapon of war, calling it a crime under international law, and criticized Israel’s military for replacing UN aid channels with the privatized Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. This shift has led to critical food shortages and nearly 1,400 deaths among those seeking food.
They also denounced Israel’s accusations against UNRWA of involvement in terrorism, which caused 16 donor countries to suspend funding. After independent investigations found no proof, all but the US resumed financial support.
The experts expressed concern over Israel’s widening smear campaign targeting OCHA and imposing visa restrictions on international humanitarian workers. They also condemned Israel for obstructing human rights monitoring by blocking UN staff access and allowing attacks on local journalists.
They urged all states to work toward restoring the UN humanitarian system in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and accountability for breaches of international law.
The experts concluded by emphasizing the need to end the illegal occupation as mandated by the International Court of Justice and to fully uphold Palestinian self-determination with the establishment of an independent and secure State of Palestine.
