Boodle Fight of the Century at Kalye

Celebrity Chef Jordan Andino and Kalye Head Chef Vance Consignado present a first-of-its-kind, ten-course culinary showdown in NYC

This is a perfect intersection of my personal life and my fine-dining background.”
— Jordan Andino, Celebrity Chef
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Kalye, the Filipino restaurant and cultural hub on the Lower East Side, will host "The Ultimate Boodle Fight of the Century" on Thursday, August 20, 2026, a ten-course kamayan-style feast, the Filipino tradition of eating communally with your hands off banana leaves. The event presents Celebrity Chef Jordan Andino and Kalye's own Head Chef Vance Consignado in the first head-to-head boodle fight between two acclaimed Filipino chefs this century. Two seatings, 6 PM and 8:30 PM, are $99 per person.

"Expect high energy, incredible flavors, and an unbelievable showdown between two masterful chefs," says Kalye owner Rob Mallari-D'Auria. "It's a celebratory, vibrant night where tradition meets contemporary culinary creativity, plus great drinks, great music, and the electric vibe of the LES."

At the heart of the boodle fight is kapwa, a core Filipino value rooted in shared identity, the belief that you see yourself in others. Filipino culture has long treated joy and celebration as something to actively choose, and a boodle fight puts that value on full display: a table with no assigned seats, just everyone sharing the same spread with their hands.

Each chef will prepare five dishes, for ten total. Consignado, who grew up in Laguna province, home to the Philippines' largest freshwater lake, channels that upbringing into dishes like his Branzino Sinugno, a smoky, coconut-based family recipe, and Stuffed Chicken Inasal Wings marinated in vinegar, calamansi, lemongrass, garlic, and annatto, served with toyomansi. "The Branzino Sinugno is the most personal dish on my menu," Consignado says. "Coconut is central to the food and culture there."

Andino counters with Lola's BBQ Pork E-Skewers, a Filipino Galbi, and a Turon Lumpia dessert, a fried spring roll of caramelized plantain and jackfruit. A standout is his Filipino-Jamaican Kare Agnolotti: pillows of pasta stuffed with peanut butter-braised oxtail, butter beans, scotch bonnet pepper, and ricotta, served with a Dr. Pepper demi-glace. "My stepdad is Jamaican and my dad is Filipino," Andino says. "This is a perfect intersection of my personal life and my fine-dining background."

General Manager and Beverage Director Charles Wainwright designed Filipino-inspired cocktails, including the Manila Martini (vodka, gin, calamansi, pandan, coconut) and the Elektra (vodka, lychee, calamansi, vanilla), plus a non-alcoholic Pandan Pop. "What I love most about a boodle fight is the reaction when the food hits the table," said Wainwright. "You leave full, but more importantly, connected."

Guests will be seated with other attendees rather than only their own party, in keeping with the communal spirit of a boodle fight. Gloves will be available. Seating is limited.
